Stephen Patterson

Stephen PattersonI live in Glenelg South with my wife, Tammy, and our four children. My family lead an active outdoor lifestyle, utilising many facilities that the Council provides.

This has led to an interest in the decisions that Council is responsible for making and was the reason I wanted to serve on council as an elected member in 2010.

Local government is an effective tier of government because it is so close to the community and can immediately have a positive impact on peoples lives and homes.

I believe that the community needs people who are elected to council for the right reasons, who are working hard for the betterment of the broad community and ensure good governance in the way council is run.

I am a graduate of the University of Adelaide and have the following qualifications:

- Bachelor of Science (Physics)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) with 1st Class Honours

I am a business owner of a company that specialises in sporting membership software and web hosting. Running the business has required continual focus on the financial aspects of the business, making sure that expenses are controlled and match income.

My passion is sport and a healthy lifestyle. I have played football for Norwood in the SANFL and Collingwood in the AFL. My involvement in sport has exposed me to some fantastic leaders, who had taught me how to lead in a team environment.

My parents and coaches have instilled in me the values of hard work, discipline and continual improvement.

Since retiring from professional sport my family & I have become involved with Glenelg Surf Lifesaving Club. This is a terrific environment for each family member to actively participate, while at the same time being part of a volunteer organisation dedicated to preserving and saving lives.

I am currently a volunteer lifesaver for the Glenelg Surf Lifesaving Club, including being a patrol captain for a number of years. My wife and eldest son have received their bronze medallions and are also part of a lifesaving patrol.

Our family also realise we are fortunate to live in such a safe country and support the Save the Children charity, to give assistance to children in poverty stricken areas of the world. Please click on the image to the left to find the support programs provided by Save the Children.
